Masons have a long history of supporting learning, education and the public schools. In several
states, Masons established the first public schools. Many do not know, that in 1817 Masons in Michigan provided the much needed
support for the newly-created University of Michigan. Of the total amount subscribed to start the University, two-thirds
came from the Masons in Michigan.
Wayne Lodge, each year, commits a significant amount of money to college scholarships
for the high school graduates of our community. In addition, the Grand Lodge of Michigan provides matching funds to
make our contribution even more helpful to the scholarship recipient.
Each year, in June, the recipients of the year's scholarships are honored
at a Special Dinner, where they recive the scholarship donations.
